Description
Castara Retreats is a newly-built eco resort superbly located overlooking the Bay of Castara on Tobago, with stunning views of the Caribbean Sea and mountains.

The six quality accommodations reflect the principles of sustainable tourism each sleeping from two to four people. They all have stupendous views and are set in lush tropical gardens right above the golden sandy beach of Castara - an unspoiled fishing village with little shops and cafes. The sea in the bay is safe for bathing being free of the currents that can cause problems on the Atlantic coast. It is ideal for swimming, body surfing, sunbathing or just wandering along to buy a drink, choose a fish for dinner or have a chat with the locals. The village and beach are both less than five minutes walk from Castara Retreats.
The lodges consist of two new cedar buildings plus a renovated fisherman's shack which retains its unique Caribbean character. Coasthanger (one bedroom), sleeps two, Birdsong (two bedrooms) sleeps four whilst Fisherman's has one bedroom and and sleeps two. The penthouse apartment (two bedrooms), with two one bedroom apartments below are in a separate house and may be rented for holidays separately or combined for larger groups sleeping a total of eight people. All are stylish, comfortable, well furnished and equipped. Bed linen and towels are changed every three-four days. Outside you will find sun terraces, a sheltered pagoda, barbecues and shady spots where you can relax under the mango trees and listen to the mot-mots calling.

Purpose-designed deck areas are as perfect for birders as they are for watching the sting rays in the bay below or the spectacular Caribbean sunsets. Our support team are local to Castara and are either neighbours or living close by in the village. You can arrange with them for a barbecue, a meal on your deck, a walk in the rainforest or a boat trip to your very own island.
The basic principle is looking after yourselves in well resourced self-catering accommodation with good local back up and support that is free from the constraints and protocols of hotels.
