Wood’s Gain Bed and Breakfast is one of Carroll County’s best-kept secrets – located in the historic village of Linwood (mid way between New Windsor and Union Bridge, off of Route 75). We are just 8 miles from Westminster, Maryland. Wood’s Gain is a “Home Stay” B&B. This means it is the full time residence of its owners – Bev and Steve Kerkam and their daughter Nicki.
There are four guest accommodations at the B&B. All have private baths, two have fireplaces and one is a private cottage with a whirlpool tub in the bath.
Linwood maintains its mellow brick buildings, mill, farms, barns and white steeple church and it provides travelers with a warm, friendly hospitality based upon two centuries of tradition.
Josiah Englar, who purchased the property as part of the tract of land for which the B&B is named, built the brick house (c1866), the oldest in the village, which is today completely restored. Unique features include five fireplaces, four stairways, the Parlor, the Summer Kitchen and, for the more adventurous, the old Outhouse in the back. The original Englar General Store, built in 1877, and the Mill/Grain Elevator are still part of the property.
While staying at Wood’s Gain Bed and Breakfast, guests may enjoy sitting on the front porch swing, playing the old upright piano, playing the hand-cranked phonograph or relaxing in the parlor or on the patio with a good book. The four guest accommodations are furnished in a comfortable elegance. Guests will enjoy the antiquity but not at the expense of a good night’s sleep. The Rose Garden, with over 100 rose bushes, is the perfect setting for breakfast, afternoon refreshments or quiet reflection. A full hearty gourmet breakfast is served every morning.
Wood’s Gain B&B offers discounts and promotions at various times of the year (see our website for details). Although there are no TVs and telephones in the rooms, telephone service is provided to the guest at no charge for local calls. This B&B stocks a full supply of local brochures from the Carroll Country Office of Tourism to help guests unfamiliar with this area and they are always happy to assist with restaurant suggestions and dinner reservations. Parking is always free and the innkeepers are happy to assist their guests with their luggage to and from their car. Service is the number one thing we provide, along with a comfortable bed and a scrumptious breakfast. Innkeepers Bev and Steve Kerkam do their best to exceed their guests’ expectations by providing those little extras that make a stay such a wonderful experience.
