Description The Heritage Town of Perth Ontario was founded in 1816 as the first military establishment in Canada,
after the War of 1812 in the Rideau Corridor. The British government wanted a trained, fighting force close at hand should the Americans attack Upper Canada again.
Perth is the home of the largest cheese ever manufactured, the last fatal duel fought in Canada, the second telephone installation in Canada, the award winning downtown Matheson House - Perth Museum, and over 80 unique shops and restaurants occupying the downtown Heritage buildings.
